History

Almac Machine began in 1979 as a small machine shop with approximately five basic machines providing machine services to the oilfield, forestry and general industries. The quality, the expertise and level of service immediately drew many impressive customers and spurred a pattern of continuous improvements and expansions. The machine shop expanded in 1981.

In 1984, experiencing a downturn in the oil and gas industry, management took an opportunity to diversify its business with the purchase of manufacturing rights and drawings for Coutts Machinery Company, a private company which manufactured sawmill machinery and parts. As market conditions changed, Almac Machine again became increasingly involved in the oil and gas industry.

In 1993, Almac Machine added a field services division to capitalize on the trend of its customers downsizing their maintenance departments and relying on external service providers for maintenance and removal of equipment.

Also in 1993, in response to customer demands, Almac expanded again and began to provide fabrication services.

Due to continued growing demand for all of Almac's services, Almac Machine relocated its machine shop in 1995 to its current location which was significantly larger in size to the prior shop and in 1996 it built a fabrication facility on the premises. Also in 1996, Almac Machine acquired all of the assets of Pardel Manufacturing Ltd., adding CNC machinery, machinists and expertise.

In 1997, Almac Machine built an addition to its fabrication facility doubling its fabrication space.

In 1998, with a desire to increase their involvement in the developing Alberta Oil Sands industry, Almac researched and developed considerable expertise in the area of wear coatings for the hydrotransport piping systems. Almac Wear Technologies Ltd. was founded and began offering high quality chromium carbide lined hydrotransport piping systems. At the time, the overlay industry was using dated machinery and old technology. Almac designed and manufactured new technology, state-of-the-art machinery and quickly set new benchmarks for the overlay of pipes and elbows. This revolutionary new welding process and machinery resulted in multiple patents for Almac.

As Almac Machine provided repair services for blowers, they enjoyed a substantial base of vacuum truck customers.  In August 2000 Almac Machine took advantage of this and expanded their product offering with the manufacturing of vacuum & hydrovac trucks and equipment. In 2007 this division was relocated to its own state-of-the-art facility.

In 2001, customer demand dictated the opening of a second Almac Wear facilty, increasing its pipe overlay capacity by 100%.

In 2008, in response to a need for increased capacity, Almac Machine relocated its mechanical equipment repair and field services divisions to a new standalone facility.

The Almac Group of Companies continue to utilize the newest technologies and hire the best people to maintain our position as leaders in industry. We are constantly evaluating new opportunities to provide value added solutions and cost savings for our customers.
